Free vs Pro: What's the Difference?

The free tier is genuinely useful. The Pro tier's main value: access to GPT-4o and Claude models for better reasoning, plus specialized search modes.

What It's Great For

Research and fact-checking — this is where Perplexity shines. Need to verify a statistic, find the source of a claim, or understand a complex topic? Perplexity delivers cited answers in seconds.

Real-time information — Perplexity always searches live, so you get current pricing, recent news, and up-to-date facts. ChatGPT without web search will give you outdated information; Perplexity won't.

Academic research — the Academic search mode focuses specifically on peer-reviewed papers and citations. Elicit does this better, but Perplexity is a close second.

Where It Falls Short

Creative tasks — don't use Perplexity to write a blog post, generate code, or brainstorm ideas. It's a research tool first. Claude or ChatGPT is the better choice.
